In the Celsius scale, the boiling point of water is 100°C, and the freezing point is at 0°C, while in the Fahrenheit scale the boiling point of water is measured at 212°F and freezing point at 32°F. This is the significant point which distinguishes both.
Although there are other factors, which make them different from each other like the matter of acceptance. As due to the easily right property, Celsius is used all over the world, except in the United States, as they use Fahrenheit as their measuring tool. Celsius is also not accepted in some places, where Kelvin (another way of measuring temperature) is used.
Celsius is the simplest way of measuring temperature. However, the value of these measuring scale is convertible to each other, by applying certain mathematical calculations, which is described below.

Definition of Celsius
Celsius scale is the part of the metric system and is used to measure the temperature in many countries. Celsius was earlier known as centigrade scale; it is denoted as°C (the Celsius scale). This is the easiest method to understand the temperature reading.
Celsius was introduced in mid-1700 by ‘Andres Celsius‘. Taking water as the base, they have set certain standard values, which is clear to figure out. Like the freezing point of water is 0°C and the boiling point is 100°C. The normal human body temperature is 32°C, and the absolute zero value is set at -273.15°C.
As we said that the values are interconvertible, by applying some easy calculations, so here is the way to change the Celsius to Fahrenheit.
°C to °F: Multiply by 9, then divide by 5 and then add 32.
Formula is written as: (°C × 9/5) + 32 = °F or precisely (°C × 1.8) +32.
Example: How to convert 28°C to Fahrenheit (°F).
First step: 28°C × 9/5 = 252/5 = 50.4.
Second step: 50.4 + 32 = 82°F.
Explanation: From the above example we can it is mandatory to explain that why we have converted the temperature by taking the value as 9/5 and then adding with 32. So if we look at the scale of the Celsius and Fahrenheit, their scale starts at 0°C and 32°C (0 vs 32), respectively, so here we have added 32. Secondly, the scale rises at the rate of 100°C and 180°F (100 vs 180), so again we need to multiply, and 180/100 = 9/5. So this is very easy to calculate.
Definition of Fahrenheit
This is another parameter to measure temperature but nowadays used in United States (US) and few of its territories. It was originated by the physicist ‘Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit‘ in 1724. The relative’s values like freezing and boiling point of water make the difference. According to this parameter, the boiling point of the water is 212°F and melting point 32°F, and so it makes the difference of the 180 degrees exactly.
The Celsius scale and the Fahrenheit scale coincides at -40°, which is same for both. Even normal human body temperature is 96° on this scale and the absolute zero –459.67°F.
Likewise, the values of Celsius to Fahrenheit is interconvertible, and the same can be done from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
°F to °C: Subtract 32, then multiply by 5, then divide by 9.
Formula is written: (°F – 32) × 5/9 = °C or precisely (F – 32)/1.8.
Example: How to convert 98.6° Fahrenheit into Celsius (°C)
First step: 98.6°F – 32 = 66.6.
Second step: 66.6 × 5/9 = 333/9 = 37°C.
And so from the above example, it is easily understandable to convert the given values in Celsius to Fahrenheit.
Key Difference Between Celsius and Fahrenheit
Upcoming points are the key differences between the two important parameters for measuring the temperature which is Celsius and Fahrenheit:
- Celsius temperature scale or Celsius, denoted by °C and is named after the astronomer ‘Andres Celsius‘ in mid-1700. On the other hand, Fahrenheit is denoted by the °F and is named after the physicist ‘Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit‘ in 1724.
- The idea behind the origination of this kind measurement was to measure the temperature, though in case of Celsius they used the concept that water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C. In the case of Fahrenheit, they used the concept that freezing point of water is at 32°F and below. The boiling point in the Fahrenheit is described as 212°F and above.
- The Celsius scale is accepted and widely used, but Fahrenheit is accepted and is used in the United States and some of its territories.
- Absolute zero in the Celsius scale is -273.15°C, and in Fahrenheit, it is -459.67°F.
- Average human body temperature in the Celsius scale is 37°C, while in Fahrenheit it is 98.6°F.
- Though these values can be interchanged, so conversion formula is very simple like, if we want to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit: °C × 1.8 + 32 = °F and to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius: (°F – 32) / 1.8 = °C.
Conclusion
From the above article, we can say that Celsius and Fahrenheit are the two types of parameters to measure temperature, and even it does not matter whether its Celsius or Fahrenheit. But as we discussed that Celsius is considered as the convenient and easy way to measure the temperature.
However at two first glance, the two seems to be different, but after getting in details, we found that the way of measurement of the two scale is only different.
